LTC Timothy P. Sorensen was commissioned in 2004 after graduating from Lehigh University with a degree in Business and Economics and a minor in International Relations. He began his military career as an Armor Officer, completing the Armor Officer Basic Course and being stationed at Ray Barracks, Germany. He deployed as a Tank Platoon Leader with the 2-37 AR Battalion in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, where he served in Tal Afar and Ramadi, Iraq, from 2006-2007.

Following his tour in Iraq, LTC Sorensen transitioned to Military Intelligence. He was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he commanded a company in the 305th Military Intelligence Battalion. He then served as the Squadron S2 for the 5-7 Cavalry at Fort Stewart, Georgia, deploying to Qalat, Afghanistan, in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM from 2012-2013. During this deployment, he was the Senior Intelligence Advisor to an Afghan National Army Military Intelligence Company, guiding them in providing all-source intelligence, low-level voice intercept, and human intelligence to their Corps.

After completing the Command and General Staff College, LTC Sorensen served as Operations Officer and then Executive Officer for the 344th Military Intelligence Battalion at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. In this role, he was responsible for training soldiers in four Army Signals Intelligence Military Occupational Specialties in a joint training environment. He was then assigned as the S2 for the 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Osan Air Base, Korea, where he monitored emerging missile threats and optimized air defense capabilities.

LTC Sorensen’s next assignment was as the Assistant Chief of Staff G2 for the 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command in Sembach Kaserne, Germany. In this role, he provided critical intelligence in support of defense and deterrence operations related to the Ukraine conflict. He is currently serving as Professor of Military Science at Rutgers University, where he is responsible for developing future leaders and problem solvers committed to the Profession of Arms.

Throughout his career, LTC Sorensen has pursued continuous professional development, completing the Resident Command and General Staff Officers Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and earning a Master of Science in Adult Education from Kansas State University. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Action Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Senior Army Basic Space Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold). He has also received the prestigious Knowlton Award and the St. Barbara Award.

LTC Sorensen is married to Kristy, originally from New Jersey. Together, they have two children: Michael, a freshman at Cornell University, and Brianna, an 8th grader in middle school.
